A ranking policeman who rushed to the help of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knife attacker has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a knife to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist after a vehicle incident in the area in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman attacked," the officer could be heard saying over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage released by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, run up to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.

He struck the officer who lost balance and went down to the street, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor although being repeatedly struck with the knife.
